What are Shishito Peppers?
Shishito peppers are mild peppers that is typically planted in Spring or early Summer when the temperature in the soil is between 70-80 degrees Fahrenheit. The shishito pepper plant needs a good amount of sun, typically between 6-8 hours a day. Harvesting of these little peppers happens in the early fall, about 60 days after transplanting. The best part is that most shishito pepper plants produce a good amount of little green peppers. Once harvested, these east Asian Japanese peppers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. These little peppers are perfect to pick up at your favorite grocery stores such as Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods and are usually in the farmers markets in the fall. How to Make Shishito Peppers in the Air Fryer
Wash and rinse the peppers in a colander. Add the shishito peppers to a small bowl and pour the olive oil over the peppers. Stir to coat. Add the seasonings to the peppers and stir to evenly coat. Place the peppers into the air fryer basket in a single layer. Air fry the shishito peppers at 390 degrees Fahrenheit for 8-10 minutes, tossing the peppers halfway through. Carefully remove from the air fryer basket and serve immediately on a serving dish with your favorite dipping sauce. NOTE: This recipe was made in the basket style 5.8 qt Cosori air fryer. If you are using a different brand of air fryer, you may need to adjust the cooking time slightly.
